It's powered and operated by the ecommerce enterprise Amazon.[1] It was founded in October 17, 1990 by Col Needham. It is one of the first websites on the Internet.

IMDb's main page
The IMDb antecedents was on an USENET forum, when a person posted a list of atractive actresses.[2] After that more USENET users started to make a list of their favorite actors. Then Col Needham, its founder, posted a movie-listing software to a USENET discussion group[3] 9 years ago, was purchased by Amazon.[1] The most searched things on browsers directing to the site is 'super hero' 'story tellings' and 'tv shows'[4]

On 2002, IMDb released a premium version called IMDb Pro.[5]
It is more directed to an professional-movie audience. IMDb Pro starts with an 30-day free trial. You can login with your Amazon account, due to the purchase of Amazon to IMDb.[1]
